We use this blog to communicate about school, and figure things out with a bit of a collective advantage. If we team up a bit, we can go beyond what is expected of us, in terms of cohesion and production. In other words, we learn from each others strengths, contributions and opinions/ideas. The blog also acts as a good form to display/share our achievements with digital and traditional media.

How to Texture in Maya!
Texturing in Maya
Can stay in “Polygons”
Menu >> Window >> Rendering Editors >> Hypershade
Right click on the object “Assign New Material”
A window will pop up titled “Assign New Material”
Click on “Surface” (under the Maya menu = You’ll see main menus here, Favorites and Maya)
A list of basic Materials will come up – The main ones that you’ll want to be working with are:
Lambert – Average material, slight matte.
Blinn – Average material, yet slightly shiny.
Select (one of them):
Go into your Hypershade window, Under the “Materials” tab, you’ll see a new material, named “blinn1” or “lambert1,” etc. If you right click on the material, select “Rename” – you can rename the texture, to make this easier to find later on, if the Materials palette becomes cluttered with numerous textures.
Make sure [texture you want to work with] is selected, and it can be altered in Maya’s Attribute Editor. Next, we’re going to add a JPG to create a texture ☺
In the Attribute’s Editor, there are MANY options of things that you can do here.
1. Under Common Material Attributes
2. Left click on the Black and White checkered square that’s situated to the far left of the Color slider option
3. Another little window will come up, titled “Create Render Node”
4. Click on the box option (on the Right Side) that says “File”
5. Go BACK to the Attribute Editor, under the tab section that reads “File Attributes”
6. Click on the little yellow file folder icon on the Right Side of the “Image Name” option
7. Locate your JPG or texture file on your computer – Select “Yah Import That!!”
And there you have it – the Material you created is now textured with the JPG/image you created yourself ☺ Happy Rendering!

jQuery Assignment
I've tried two different plugins, and done everything right to my knowledge (one I showed Alicia stumped her) and I have no clue what I'm doing wrong.
I'm worried I won't find a working plugin by Wednesday. Can anyone name me a plugin that's working for them, as a backup plan?
Thanks!

Also, just a shoutout to Vanessa - for letting me email her so I could let the instructors know I'm sick. Thank you so much.
And a shoutout for Kathy and Reema for getting the script printed and handed in for me.

This is part of a seating room at the Fort Garry Hotel, I submitted it as one of 3 possible rooms to model in 3d. I think it's pretty cool looking with the weird/spooky face on the fireplace. =)

Need sounds for your video? Check out this link!
The sound effects made on this website are recorded and uploaded by users and are completely and utterly free to use. I think if you were to use any of them on a commercial project, you just have to make sure you site the users who uploaded the sounds, but i don't think you need to worry about that for school projects.

WFTW: Branding Assignment
Finally heard back from Kent today, regarding tomorrow's Branding assignment.
- Approximately 3-5 pages (guideline)
- 1.5 Spacing is fine
Did Kent mention whether or not double spacing or single spacing is to be used for our written portion of the WFTW assignment? (Btw, it was mildly amusing trying to Google "double spacing for presentations," I learned quickly that "double rainbow" guy is taking the lead for Google's primary hit for "double..." ...and yes, I caved and finally watched it X/)
I am interested in knowing out of possible spacing options, if he explained the other day in class, which format is acceptable.
As well, in case you didn't grab this puppy off the server, he showed us the evaluation sheet he'll be using to grade us on our oral presentations. Download it here: Eval.pdf
If anyone's curious about making presentations (as am I), I found a few great resources on the web.... after filtering out Mr. Sobbing Rainbow Man.

The WINNITRON 1000!
Hey guys,
Lots of you have heard this already, but i want to make sure as many people as possible find out about this. Especially fellow Red River students. Share this with your friends!
I've been collaborating with local game designers and all round cool guys Alec Holowka and Noel Berry on a fantastic new project called The WINNITRON 1000!
It's in beta stage right now, we've got the computer and controls up and running but it's basically going to be a full-fledged indie games arcade cabinet that can update it's game library wirelessly and allow up to two-players to compete simultaneously!
We're also hosting a jam to make games for the Winnitron right here in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. If you are a motivated artist, coder, or musician interested in helping out, check out the full release on Alec's blog.

Free 3D Content!
This 3D content can be uploaded into Maya. I've been working with these figures for some time now (alot of you may all ready know about these, but I like to share!), to create CG artwork, example of my renders (postwork in Photoshop CS2.0).
One thing I like about viewing pre-made polys, is that it gives me a good opportunity to study the angles, shapes and figures in detail...without banging my head against a wall, trying to figure out how to perfect models right off the hop.

Victoria 2.0
Michael 4.0
David
Stephanie Petite 3.0
The Kids 4.0
Now, these files are all fully sculpted, rigged, and come with skin textures. They can be tweaked for animations in Maya.
To bring up the poly objects in Maya, follow these happy steps =3
>> Once all files are downloaded, run the installers
>> They're going to ask for a folder destination; I always download to desktop so I'll find them more easily
>> You should see a few folders on your desktop>> Go into Maya - Up at the top menu, click on:
>> File >> Import >> (Runtime folder) >> Geometries > Click on files that ends in *.OBJ ... (except for that null.obj file...I don't know what the crap the point is for that!!)
And voila.
Greetings!
